The Piper Cub is a small light aircraft that was initially designed specifically for flight training, but it
soon became extremely popular among general aviators. Generals Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton and
George Marshall flew them around the European battlefields during WWII. A unique feature of the J-3 model
is that when it's flown solo the pilot sits in the rear seat. This is done in order to achieve a proper
balance ratio due to the positioning of the fuel tank.
Steve bought this 1946 Piper Cub for his wife Barbara in 1979.
It was completely restored in 1994. The restoration included a new STC continental 0-200,
100 horsepower engine. The WWII invasion paint job seen in these pictures is the same as at the time
Steve and Barbara owned it.
