Solar Productions employed several Porsche 917s during the production of Le Mans during the summer of 1970. Three of them – race numbers 20, 21, and 22 -- wore the famous blue and orange Gulf Oil livery. Solar owned the number 20 car, originally purchased with the idea that McQueen would run it in the actual race, although that was dubbed to risky for the project. All three cars are accounted for today, and while any 917 is a highly sought after vintage racer, the McQueen/Solar 20 machine has to be one of the most valuable. Photo courtesy of Porsche Werkphoto.
