McQueen Entered the Santa Barbara (California) races Labor Day weekend in 1959. He engaged in a stubborn wheel-to-wheel battle with Lotus ace Frank Monise in another Mark X 1, winding up Saturday's event just a split second behind him, "about six inches off Frank's tailpipe!"

Steve in car		 In Sunday's main event, still chasing Monise, Steve overextended himself while charging into a hairpin turn. "I spun and killed the engine, which cost me the race. I was embarrased about that, but I was still learning. Each time you compete you learn more." Try some new wheels
